When continuous punching is required and several sets of molds are needed, the mold cost and machine usage cost will greatly increase. At this time, using powder metallurgy technology for certain parts may be advantageous. When manufacturing a composite component composed of several punched parts, in addition to the cost of parts and molds, it is also necessary to increase the cost of assembly tools and welding. At this time, powder metallurgy technology is more suitable for manufacturing. When the complexity of the part shape exceeds the manufacturing capacity of traditional powder metallurgy processes, metal injection molding process may be an optional molding process. As mentioned above, the relative mold and production costs depend on the number of molds and presses required.
The material utilization rate of powder metallurgy process is very high, while the material utilization rate of sheet metal punching is relatively low. Although the production rate of precision punching is lower than that of ordinary punching and the equipment cost is also high, it is very economical for manufacturing parts with a table. Precision punching cannot manufacture parts with more than two countertops.
