17-4PH MIM feedstock (also known as MIM compound) is ready-to-use pellet raw material compounded from gas-atomized 17-4PH martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel powder and custom polymer binder systems. It is specially engineered for metal injection molding to manufacture complex near-net-shape sintered precision components.
17-4PH (UNS S17400 / Alloy 630) is the most widely adopted high-strength stainless steel for MIM. It contains chromium, nickel, copper and niobium. After sintering and simple aging heat treatment, this alloy delivers exceptional high tensile strength and hardness while retaining moderate corrosion resistance. Compared with 304L / 316L austenitic grades, 17-4PH can achieve much higher mechanical strength via aging treatment, ideal for load-bearing structural parts.
We supply 17-4PH feedstock with three binder routes: catalytic debinding, thermal debinding and water-soluble debinding, to match your existing MIM furnace and production workflow.

Core Powder Requirements for MIM:D10 ≤4 μm, D50 =8–11 μm, D90=23–29 μm. Low oxygen, high tap density and good flowability. Main industrial production routes: Gas atomization, Water atomization, Water-gas combined atomization.
Gas Atomization (GA / VIGA Vacuum Induction Gas Atomization):
- High-pressure Nitrogen / Argon gas
- Powder morphology: High sphericity; satellite particles are the primary defect
Water Atomization (WA)
- Medium: High-pressure water (80–150 MPa)
- Powder morphology: Irregular, multi-angular shape
Water-gas Combined Atomization
Pre-breakup by gas first, then secondary impact with water. Balances fine powder yield and particle sphericity.
Binder System Options
- Catalytic Debinding Feedstock Fast debinding cycle, low carbon residue after sintering. The preferred choice for large-volume industrial MIM production, widely used by European MIM manufacturers.
-
Thermal Debinding Feedstock No acid vapor required, flexible furnace requirement. Suitable for small batch trials, R&D and low-volume production.
-
Water-soluble Debinding Feedstock Eco-friendly aqueous debinding process. Lower investment for debinding equipment, perfect for laboratory and pilot production.

FAQ
Q: What is 17-4PH MIM material?
A: 17-4PH is martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel. MIM parts can be hardened by aging heat treatment to achieve very high strength and hardness.
Q: What is the difference between 17-4PH and 316L MIM feedstock?
A: 17-4PH can be heat treated for high strength and hardness, for load-bearing parts. 316L is austenitic stainless steel with superior corrosion resistance, used in sanitary, medical and chloride-resistant applications.
Q: Can I get samples of your 17-4PH MIM feedstock?
A: Yes, we supply trial samples for your injection and sintering process evaluation. Contact our sales team for sample quotation.
Q: What debinding option should I select?
A: Catalytic debinding is recommended for mass production. Thermal debinding fits small batch and R&D projects. We adjust formulation to match your furnace.
Q: Are your 17-4PH feedstock exportable to EU?
A: Yes. We provide complete MSDS and batch certificates to support export declaration and customs inspection.
