Carbonyl iron powder (CIP),with its high purity, high sphericity, excellent magnetic properties, and good sintering activity, has become an indispensable core raw material in high-end manufacturing, electronics, and defense industries. We are the only company who uses the medium-pressure process to producecarbonyl iron powder in China. The carbonyl iron powder project was founded in2007, and the process was jointly developed with the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy and the Russia Central Academy of Sciences. We have set up R&D laboratories for developing metal powder injection molding, inductors,and microwave absorption materials to better meet customers' requirement. The carbonyl iron powder is mainly used for metal powder injection molding (MIM), inductors,iron powder cores, microwave absorption materials, powder metallurgy parts, diamond tools,diamond catalysts, magnetic materials, medicine etc.

 

Core Product Characteristics

 

The key characteristics of carbonyl iron powder are as follows:

- High Purity: Conventional products have an iron content ≥99.5%, with high-end, high-purity models reaching over 99.9%, and some special models even exceeding 99.98%; oxygen content can be controlled below 300ppm, and the content of harmful impurities such as carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus is extremely low (carbon content ≤0.02%), effectively avoiding interference from impurities on product performance and meeting the needs of high-end precision manufacturing.

- Excellent Magnetic Properties: Possesses outstanding soft magnetic properties, with an initial permeability of 200–300 μH/m, a saturation magnetic induction of 2.15–2.2 T, and a coercivity as low as 0.05–2.0 Oersted. It features a narrow hysteresis loop, low magnetostriction, and minimal temperature-dependent magnetization, maintaining stable magnetic properties even in the 1–100 MHz high-frequency range, combining high permeability with low magnetic loss.

- Fine Microstructure: Particles are perfectly spherical (sphericity ≥ 0.92), with a smooth surface and a narrow, controllable particle size distribution (typically 1–10 μm, customized models can cover 0.5–45 μm). Some products exhibit a unique onion-like layered structure with moderate hardness, providing both good flowability and formability while preventing damage to the workpiece surface during precision machining.

- Excellent processing performance: High sintering activity allows for densification sintering at lower temperatures, significantly reducing sintering temperature and time compared to traditional iron powder. Excellent compressibility, with a loose density ≥2.8g/cm³ and a Hall flow rate ≤25s/50g, it is suitable for various processing techniques such as powder metallurgy and injection molding, enabling the fabrication of high-precision, high-strength complex structural parts.

- Versatile adaptability: Through processes such as annealing for oxidation prevention and hydrogen reduction, it can be divided into hard powder (unreduced, with higher hardness) and soft powder (reduced, with moderate hardness), each suitable for different applications. Good chemical stability, it is not easily oxidized under normal storage conditions, and surface modification treatments can be performed to further improve corrosion resistance and dispersibility.

With its excellent electromagnetic wave absorption capabilities, it is widely used in stealth aircraft, stealth ships, missiles, and other military equipment, effectively absorbing radar waves to achieve stealth effects. Simultaneously, it can replace depleted uranium materials in the production of armor-piercing projectile cores for high-end military equipment manufacturing, requiring extremely high product purity (≥99.9%) and impurity content.

 

4. Superhard Materials and Diamond Tools

It can partially replace expensive cobalt powder as the matrix material for diamond tools, reducing production costs while improving the matrix's holding power for diamond and its wear resistance. It is suitable for manufacturing high-performance diamond grinding wheels, saw blades, drill bits, and other tools, widely used in the processing of hard and brittle materials such as ceramics, stone, and cemented carbide.

 

5. Other Fields

Used in the preparation of magnetorheological fluids (core magnetic particles), suitable for magnetorheological polishing, magnetic vibration damping, and other applications.
